Does Size Matter?

Does Size Matter?

Does Size Matter?

By Suchismita Sarkar

This is an age-old question, one that has been discussed over and over again. BUT, did you also that sizes play a big role in your perfume closet?

Now that we have your attention, more on that later.

We asked a series of questions and also ran some polls on our Instagram stories, and we were amazed to see that there was a clear demarcation when it comes to sizing preferences. Based on the same, we have three groups of people:

1. The Full Sizers:

A group of people said that they chose to buy only full sizes because of a wide variety of reasons, some of which included brand loyalty, love for a celebrity or influencer who endorsed or made it, or even (according to a few people) fear of reformulation/discontinuation.

2. The Deluxe Sizers:

A sizeable chunk of people said that they preferred 30ml or 50ml bottles because of a multitude of reasons, out of which the cost and portability factors seemed to be the major players.

3. The Sample Sizers:

This group happened to be absolute fans of the mini sizes, something they could easily throw into their purses or bags, and just be on the move.

Here's the thing, though: WHY bring size into question in this scenario?

The reasons are simple. Sometimes, a consumer buys a full size bottle and apparently loves, but the season changes and the perfume smells differently. The bottle ends up sitting on the shelf and collecting dust, till it can be used again. Often, it lies forgotten, because new perfumes have come in to take their rightful places on the shelves. If the consumer is unable to pass it on or even it to someone else, that results in a lot of money gone to waste. Sometimes, a full size, desirable bottle purchased at a rather exorbitant price loses it's fanfare and the consumer is left with a bottle purchased because of the hype, and not necessarily for the quality or longevity. Small reasons, massive impact on the wallet.

Which begs the question - So which size wins, really? What sizes do the masses gravitate towards? The 30ml and 50ml bottles seemed to be the most popular. We got you, didn't we? We got you good.

The equation that comes into play when talking about perfumes and masses, is relatively simple. The average consumer likes perfumes that come in aesthetically pleasing bottles
(read "cute"), that smell amazing, that don't put a major dent in the wallet while being portable at the same time. This is where we come in - we have all the sizes you could ever need, because sizing NOT an issue at Perfume Network.
